Well, as you can imagine from the title, I am clearly talking about the entire teaching profession.
We are so lazy because we have 13 weeks holidays per year and are loving all of this additional time off.
We are cowardly, because we do not want to do our national duty and put the economy and country above our own needs and wishes.
We are middle class, leftie do-gooders and cannot possibly know what it is like for working class and vulnerable people living through this crisis. For crying out loud, we are on full pay, and quite frankly it is ridiculous that we have not given our salaries to the poor and needy.
We really do need to hang our heads in shame and reconsider everything that we do. I don't know how we can look at ourselves in the mirror and live with ourselves. How dare we worry about our own health and families when the country is in crisis? How dare we ask for PPE in schools when the real front line workers need it? How dare we ask for a plan and guidance from the government? We are, after all, just glorified babysitters. How dare we criticise the government for the botched FSM voucher scheme, surely any teacher worth their salt would just buy the vouchers themselves?
We are quite rightly vilified by the press, because we have done nothing to support the country during this crisis. We are not providing working from home opportunities for the children. We are not opening our schools for vulnerable and key worker children. We have not worked through the Easter holidays without complaint. We have not put our schools ahead of our own families. We have not put ourselves in a vulnerable position without PPE. We have not worked excess hours to ensure all families in our communities are supported. We have not taken part in video conferences to work out next steps for ensuring the best care for our children after this crisis. We have not dealt with worried families and communities. We have not fed the most needy.
We have, however, made lots of cakes and drank alcohol. We can do that because we can afford these luxuries on our full salaries for doing nothing at home. So let us stop our whining and moaning and do our bit for the country and open all schools immediately so that parents can get the economy going. We don't need to worry about social distancing as children do not spread this disease, and the risk to our own lives and families is worth it.
To be fair, the people we should be thankful for are the journalists of this country. They are putting themselves on the front line, writing news articles for the masses to keep them informed with factually accurate and relevant information from their studies at home. They are the real heroes in all of this, and I know I will be clapping for them on Thursday!
